Selecting The A Wedding Photographer
Your wedding photographs will be the most timeless memento of your day. So for this reason alone, you will want to make sure you choose the right photographer for your wedding day. There are so many things to consider when choosing the right wedding photographer. This article will give you some tips on how to choose the right one.
Wedding Photography Portfolios
The first thing to do is view several wedding photographers in your area or even neighboring areas. Make sure you see a selection of full weddings a photographer has to offer. We have seen many cases of a photographer's portfolio being full of images that were all staged using a model and a wedding dress. You will also want to meet the photographer before making any decisions or paying a deposit.
Wedding Photography Styles
Before choosing your photographer, you will need to decide what style of photography you want.
See our 'Wedding Photography Styles' section.
If you don't know what style you want, just go with what you like when you see it. Always find out what is involved and how the photographer captures these images during the day.
Meeting Your Wedding Photographer.
Meeting the photographer will give you a feel for his or her personality. You will be spending at least 8hrs on a very special day with this person. You need to know you will feel comfortable around him and they are right for you. Another suggestion is to ask the photographer for contact details of previous brides so you can contact these people and get a rounded opinion. An idea would be to speak to couples who have not left a testimonial on the photographers website.
Wedding Photography Packages
A wedding photographer will usually offer a variety of packages. You don't have an unlimited budget (maybe you do, lucky you) so you have to make sure there is a package offered that fits in with your budgeting. Most photographer's provide retouched images and several unedited images from the day as a basic package.
Some clients ask for all the RAW images, these are images that the camera produces of the highest quality. A photographer may be willing to give you these but it is highly unlikely. If you don't ask, you will never know. This really isn't a deciding factor though. Packages will range from disc only, to prints, to wedding albums. They also differ in the amount of images supplied and hours worked on the day. Remember. When it comes to images, it's the quality of images offered not the quantity.
Booking Your Photographer.
When you planned to get married, the 1st thing you probably think of is the venue. Well. Another thing you should think of is your wedding photographer. Photographers can be booked up a year in advance. If you find a selection of photographers that you think you want to use, don't hesitate in setting up a meeting so you can secure them for your date. The earlier you decide on these things the more choice you are going to have.
Standard practice when booking a wedding photographer is to pay in advance. Usually a photographer will require a deposit. This deposit can range from being a percentage of the full price or just a standard fee. This will secure your wedding date. Another standard practice is to pay the remaining balance one month before your date. These terms may be negotiated but are generally standard practice.
A professional photographer will issue you with contracts. We advise not to pay any money unless you have a signed contract. The contract will benefit both parties in the event of any problems.
Choose you photographer carefully and make sure they are the right one for you. This includes personality, pricing, packages and most importantly; Quality.
Good luck with your search.
